It has the ability to save edited pictures into various commonly known image file formats, so third-party image viewers can open them with ease. This guide demonstrates how to identify duplicate images when using them with <\/span>GIMP<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

GIMP<\/b> uses the .<\/strong><\/span>XCF<\/b> file format, which is not a common image format, but is a document format for storing images and their modification details made within the application. This means that even though it\u2019s possible to identify identical <\/span>XCF<\/b> files, it isn\u2019t possible to identify visually similar <\/span>GIMP<\/b> images. However, it\u2019s possible to identify visually similar photos before using them in <\/span>GIMP<\/b>, so that you can save your time as well as all the effort when editing the images.<\/span><\/p>\n

Solution 1: Spot Identical Files<\/b><\/h3>\n

Identical files are the exact replica of a file. They are also known as duplicate files. These files are quite common, and are one of the major reasons for occupying an enormous amount of space in the hard drive. This guide uses <\/span>Clone Files Checker<\/b> for removing exact duplicate files with ease and accuracy.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Download <\/span>Clone Files Checker<\/b> by navigating to <\/span>https:\/\/www.clonefileschecker.com\/<\/span><\/a> on the browser.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. After downloading its setup, install it by executing the setup file.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Launch <\/span>CFC<\/b> through its desktop shortcut and click <\/span>Settings<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Click the <\/span>Filter Settings<\/b> tab and\u00a0add <\/span>.XCF<\/b> file format to the <\/span>Images<\/b> section as seen in the following screenshot. Click <\/span>OK<\/b> to close this window.

    Solution 2: Identify Visually Similar Images<\/b><\/h3>\n

    This method is more of a secondary or indirect method. We say this because it relies upon <\/span>PictureEcho<\/b> to do the task. As its name implies, this software deals with scanning photos for weeding out duplicate as well as similar images. However, it currently doesn\u2019t support the .<\/strong><\/span>XCF<\/b> format. Hence the user must scan the photos before processing them in <\/span>GIMP<\/b>. This means that <\/span>PictureEcho<\/b> gets to deal with the photos in the original format they are in, and can get rid of all duplicates and import the genuine image into <\/span>GIMP<\/b>. Here is how it happens.<\/span><\/p>\n

    2. Execute the setup file to install it.<\/span><\/li>\n
