ShareX is free and open-source software that goes beyond a basic image-capturing tool. With the Print Screen key, you can capture any region of your screen and it automatically saves it to the Clipboard and a file. Unlike the default Print Screen feature in Windows, you don’t have to separately save the image to a file.

Moreover, you can grab a specific portion of your image, share the grabbed images on the Internet with your friends and colleagues. ShareX is available for download on its official website as well as on Microsoft Store.

ShareX supports capturing

  • Full screen: You can grab the entire region of your computer screen.
  • Window: You can grab a screenshot of an active window on the screen.
  • Region: Here, you can specify the portion of the screen area you want to capture.

The Snipping Tool comes preinstalled with Windows 11. It is easiest to use, has an intuitive user interface and offers multiple capturing options. It replaces the classic Snip & Sketch tool in Windows.

Since the Snipping Tool is already preinstalled, there’s no additional step you need to do. Just click on Start, type Snipping Tool and open it from the search results.

With the Snipping Tool, you can grab the entire screen, rectangular portion, active window, or select a custom portion using the free-form mode. There’s also a feature to automatically grab after a specific time period (such as a few seconds).

Snipping Tool has a major limitation though. Unlike other tools mentioned above, there’s no way to record a video of your screen activities (especially gaming sessions).
