What is PictureEcho?

PictureEcho is an application that promises to help you organize and remove duplicate photos so that you are able to save hard drive space. It is a user-friendly application that automatically detects duplicate photos and then waits for your action. If you are finding it difficult to locate and delete Movie Maker’s duplicate pictures, then this is it.

Step 1: Download PictureEcho
Visit pictureecho.com and download the application. Once the application is downloaded, launch it.

Step 2: Launch PictureEcho
Now that you have downloaded the application, launch it. You will come across an easy to use interface that will help solve your duplicate picture problems within seconds.

System Scan: By selecting ‘System Scan’, you will enable PictureEcho to search every file folder and drive for duplicate pictures. You will begin by selecting the target location.

Exact Match: The Exact match features allows the users to scan and locate duplicate files that are exactly the same as original files. It may be based on size, title, and type, etc. 

Similar Match: If you wish to run a similar match scan, then select the ‘Similarity Settings’ underneath to choose the scan of your choice. In total, you will be offered 4 types of scans.

Step 3: Include Extensions & Exclude Folders
If you wish to add extensions, PictureEcho offers several of them. Although all extensions are automatically selected, you could manually uncheck them if you desire.

At the same time, if you wish to Add or Remove a path, you can do that as well. Moreover, PictureEcho offers its users to exclude any folders if needed.


Step 4: Launch Scan
Now that you are familiar with the application, it is time to locate those duplicate pictures. To do this,

  • Click ‘Add Path’ and browse the folder that contains duplicate Movie Maker Pictures. Click ‘Ok’.
  • Now, click the Yellow-Colored ‘Start Search’ option, located at the extreme right


PictureEcho will scan and present the list of duplicate pictures within seconds.

Step 5: Select Duplicate Pictures 

Once PictureEcho is done with the scan. It will present a list of Duplicate Pictures. You could identify the original files by selecting individually while taking separate actions for duplicates.

You can choose to retain images based on their size, resolution, and creation date.

Step 6: Permanently delete or Move Duplicate Pictures

Once you have identified the files you wish to retain, it is now time to either delete or move duplicate pictures. By selecting ‘Move to Folder’, you will need to select a location, where you wish to move your duplicate files. 

Click ‘Permanent Delete’ to delete the files permanently. Once the files are deleted, Picture Echo will display them in bold red font, as shown in the image below.
