Finding Duplicate Photos on your Photo Stick
Method 1: Manually Find & Delete Photos
The first method is to sort your photos by their names using File Explorer (earlier, Windows Explorer). Once your files are sorted alphabetically, you can identify duplicate files and delete them yourself.
- Connect your Photo Stick to your computer.
- Open the File Explorer.
- Click on the Search box on the top right corner of your screen.
- Type in an image file extension (such as, .jpg)
- Your computer will display a list of all .jpg files.
- Now, click on the View tab on the Ribbon interface and select Sort By.
- Select Ascending option to sort your images by their file names in ascending format.
- Windows will rearrange your files by their names. Now you can identify and distinguish original files from duplicates using different parameters such as post-fixes. For example, Picture1.jpeg could be an original file and Picture1_Copy(2).jpeg, Picture1_Copy(3).jpeg could be its duplicate copies.
Important: This method of finding duplicates can take a tremendous amount of time. Your duplicate files could be stored in multiple directories and they may not have non-unique names that can add to the difficulty. Accidentally deleting unique files can cause loss of data.
