Although Aurora is a powerhouse when it comes to photo editing, there is one feature that it lacks: automatic detection of duplicate photos. While editing photos and experimenting with different features, users often end up generating a bunch of unnecessary duplicate files. These files hover around the users’ computers and do nothing but waste storage space or hamper the computer’s speed and performance.
While Aurora itself does not have a duplicate detection feature, there are a few external tools that you can use to both detect and get rid of unwanted duplicate files lying around your computer. One such reliable tool is PictureEcho. PictureEcho is an intelligent tool that automatically scans your desired folders and filters out all duplicate or similar photos.

How to Use PictureEcho
To clean up your storage using PictureEcho, first head to its official website. From there, you can download the setup file and install the tool for free. Once you have launched the tool, click on Add Path and load the folder(s) that you wish to scan. You can not only search for exact duplicates but also for similar photos. This can be highly useful if you are a creative individual who might have tried various layers and features during the photo editing process.
Additionally, if you head over to the Included Extensions tab, you can also add or remove the image types that you wish to include in your duplicate search. For now, PictureEcho supports PNG, JPEG (JPG, JPE, JPEG, JFIF), TIF/TIFF, GIF, Icon and Bitmap file types.
When you are satisfied with the search criteria, all you need to do is hit the Start Search button. Within a short while, you will be able to see the results i.e the detected duplicate photos. You will also be able to see a short summary of the scan results, which will denote the total number of duplicate images found, along with the total storage space they are occupying.
Click OK and you will now be able to see a list of the detected duplicates. From here, you can either permanently delete the duplicates or relocate them. Before performing one of these actions, you will need to select which of the duplicates you wish to keep and which ones you wish to get rid of. You can either perform the selection manually or you can use PictureEcho’s pre designed filters. In the second case, you can automatically select pictures on the basis of various different factors such as resolution (highest/ lowest), creation date (oldest/ newest), file location or file size (largest/ smallest).
